LORMAN - Adrienne Walker, a senior general studies major from Jackson, got a chance to display her talent in this year's spring concert by being emcee/co-host with Bradford Williams.

The spring concert was held Thursday, April 8, in the Whitney Center. The guest artists were the rap group UGK, Nicole Ray and Link.

Walker's appearance shocked the crowd because for the last four years Kesha Lewis, a graduate student in agricultural economics from Jackson, had been the emcee. Still, Walker stepped out in a long black silk dress, Pierre Dumas clear heels and a 'let's get this party started' type of attitude. Her attitude showed in the response of the students.

"Adrienne really took me by surprise and she represented Jacktown to the fullest," said Cedric Cole, a freshmen communication major from Monticello.

Lewis had nothing but good words to describe her home team.

"Being the emcee for four years, I felt it was time for someone else to gain that type of experience. Adrienne and Bradford were given a chance to display their talent in front of their peers, and they did a very good job," she said.

Walker and Williams were selected by a panel of 25 judges of the Student Government Association.

"There were no requirements and each contestant was given two minutes to display their talent. All scores were complied by a rating of each category from 1-10 and then the winners were chosen," said Kim Hooper, a junior business administration major from Biloxi.

"Emceeing this year's spring concert was a wonderful experience for me because this is my last year at the reservation," Walker said.

"Off the top," she added, "UGK is a one of my favorite rap groups. I was a little nervous at first, but Bradford and I worked well together. Also, I would like to thank the members of SGA for giving me this opportunity."
